TRON Lightcycle/Run Going Standby
Updated: Oct 19
After over 500 days of having a virtual queue, TRON Lightcycle/Run at Magic Kingdom will begin operating with a standby line on September 9, 2024. Purchasing a Lightning Lane Single Pass will continue to be an option for TRON Lightcycle/Run; it will not be included in Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom will remain Virtual Queues.
TRON Lightcycle/Run is the fastest ride at the Magic Kingdom, and one of the fastest at Walt Disney World, reaching speeds up to 60 MPH. The ride track is just over 3,000 feet long, while the dramatic canopy which covers the ride is more than 50,000 square feet. When planning started for the Disney World version of Tron Lightcycle / Run, Imagineers had to figure out what to do about the Walt Disney World Railroad which ran right through the proposed site. The ride building had to be raised about 10 feet so the train could run under and then through TRON Lightcycle / Run. The ride lasts only 60 seconds, which many guests feel is not nearly long enough.
If you are hoping to ride TRON after September 9th, we recommend one of three strategies: (1) Rope drop it. We expect TRON will vie with Seven Dwarfs Mine Train for the most popular rope drop attraction once it has a standby queue available. By getting to the Magic Kingdom an hour before opening you’ll put yourself near enough to the front of the mass of people that you should have a relatively short wait once the park opens. (2) Go at the end of the night. Our other strategy for riding the hottest attractions with low wait is to hop in line right before park closing. You do need to be aware that sometimes Cast Members will stop letting guests enter queues for the most popular attractions 20-30 minutes prior to park close if the line is too long, so sometimes this strategy doesn’t work. (3) Purchase the Single Pass. This will be the easiest, if most expensive option for getting to ride TRON on your vacation.
