Staying at a WDW Resort with an Scooter/ECV
Which rooms are accessible for charging an ECV? When you charge your ECV overnight at the resort, can you do so in the hallway or do you have to charge it in your room? Can you store your ECV with bell services at your resort hotel overnight? We spent HOURS researching things online before our trip and trying to find answers. Here is what we discovered through our research and personal experiences.
Which WDW resort rooms work best for parking and charging a ECV?
Bigger is better here, but this is our best advice when considering
Value Resorts -
All-Star Movies, Music, Sports, and Pop Century have a Murphy bed. If you do not need to use the Murphy bed you should have room to charge the ECV in your room and still be able to move around easily. If you need both beds it will be a tight squeeze. All Star Music suites should fit an ECV for charging without difficulty.
Art of Animation: Little Mermaid - these rooms will be a tight fit for charging an ECV.
Art of Animation: Suite – these rooms should fit an ECV for charging without difficulty
Moderate Resorts –
All Disney Moderate resorts should fit an ECV for overnight charging with creative parking in the room. All Moderate resorts except the following have elevators and will accommodate an ECV on any floor.
Caribbean Beach – does not have elevators, so you have to make sure to let Disney know you are renting or traveling with an ECV so they place you in a first floor room
Port Orleans: Riverside – their two story buildings in the Alligator Bayou area do not have elevators, make sure to let Disney know you are renting or traveling with an ECV so they either place you in a first floor room or in one of the rooms in the three story Mansions.
Fort Wilderness Cabins - You will need to request a cabin with a ramp if you are renting or traveling with a ECV. You should not have any issues fitting the ECV in the cabin for overnight charging.
Deluxe Resorts –
Deluxe Hotels have larger rooms and an ECV will fit for overnight charging with little difficulty. Be aware that the rooms are slightly smaller at Wilderness Lodge Resort and Animal Kingdom standard rooms. All resorts except for Old Key West have elevators and can be any room accessed by ECV.
Old Key West – the majority of the buildings are two stories without elevators, so be sure to let Disney know you are renting or traveling with an ECV.
Should you request a room that is accessible to guests in wheelchairs in order to better fit my ECV?
No. If you are completely ambulatory and do not need the accommodations such as a roll in shower or bars for the toilet you should not request a room with those features. Those rooms should be saved for guests in need of those particular accommodations.
Can you leave your ECV in the hallway and charge it overnight?
The short answer is no. Parking the ECV against the wall of the hallways to charge them partially blocks the walkway and is against fire code. If you are staying in a value or moderate resort their guest rooms open to the outdoors, so while fire code is not the same issue, ECVs should not be left outdoors overnight.
However -
Some resorts such as the Animal Kingdom Lodge or Wilderness Lodge have wider hallways with room doors that are set back in nooks with space in-between them. Because of the configuration of the hallway and the size of it, parking the ECV overnight is not against fire code. Cast Members in those particular resorts will allow you to charge your ECV in the hallway overnight (make sure to take the key into your room!!). This was our own experience when staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Please ask a Cast Member and always follow their instructions.
Can an ECV be stored at Bell Services of a WDW resort hotel overnight?
No, planDisney at the Disney.com website says you can not store your ECV with guest services, even if it is rented from Scooterbug, their official vender. We have seen on different posts that guests have been able to, so check with your WDW resort hotel for confirmation.
