Saying Goodbye to Muppet*Vision 3D to Make Way for Monstropolis
Updated: Nov 23
Disney made some big announcements today that have us both super excited and a little sad. This first of these is the official location for the all new Monstropolis coming to Hollywood Studios. There has been lots of speculation over where this new land would be and today Disney confirmed that it would indeed fall where Grand Avenue is. Below is the new concept art they released with this information.
From this new art you can see how it will overlay with the existing structure and expand upon the area. Below is the current map for the Grand Avenue, where Muppet Vision 3D, PizzeRizzo, Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, and the Stage 1 Company Store. This does of course mean that fan favorite Muppet Vision 3D will be closing. While this is sad it is unsurprising considering that while it may be a fan favorite, Muppet Vision 3D has not been a hot must do attraction for a while, with the theater virtually empty the last number of times we went.
However, with this announcement Disney also said that not only would we be getting the Monster’s Inc door coaster we have all been dreaming of for years, but there will be all new shopping, dining, and a whole new theater show! From the concept art you can catch a glimps of this new show, dubbed Monstro Late Night Screams. This is a concept art, so the name may completely change, but we are here for the vibes! This is also going to be an expansion of the park, as the door coaster sits outside of the current park boundaries.
Now, before people get lost screaming and crying about the loss of the Muppets in the park, Disney also announced that not only are we not losing the Muppets, they are making there way down the street for a retheming of Rock’n’Roller Coaster!
There has been commentary for years that Rock’in’Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith needed an update, and speculation over what famous musical group might be chosen for such a retheming. We think the choice of The Muppet’s Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem is an amazing choice! We look forward to seeing all the fabulously heart warming, quirky, fun anf funny ways that The Muppets revitalize Rock’n’Roller Coaster.
There is not a firm timeline of when Muppet Vision 3D will have its last show, or when Rock’n’Roller Coaster will close for this change. We wouldn’t be surprised if Disney targets summer or early fall 2025, but that is complete speculation right now. For now, you have time to catch a super-stretch limo to the Forum to enjoy Rock’n’Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith and catch Muppet*Vision 3D before their final curtain calls.
From The Disney Park blog:
Guests should get ready to open the door because Mike and Sulley are coming to town! Humans will be able to enter the world of Monsters, Inc. when it is added to the south side of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The new land will include the coaster we’ve all dreamed of – a suspended ride recreating the door vault scene – plus dining and shopping and a whole new theater show. To make way for the monsters, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and more of their friends will be moving right along to Sunset Boulevard! The Muppets will be taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, teaming up with some of music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival! |
